Matthew Moir is a filmmaker, writer, and performance artist based in Montreal. They currently work as a producer in development for TV and film with Muse Entertainment.

With a foundation of seven years of theatre performance, creating with like-minded community is fundamental to their practice. In 2018, they received a BA from The University of British Columbia in Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice. During their studies, they made short films and performance art under the influence of gender and queer theory. This meant using themself as a tool to challenge, provoke, and satirize conventional representations of masculinity.

They have written, directed, and acted in film and theatre. Their work is rooted in personal process, using performance art approaches and dark humor. Glad you’re Out was their debut narrative short film, selected for Telefilm Canada’s Not Short on Talent in Clermont-Ferrand 2024. Their second short, Bouquet, is currently in post-production.

Moir thanks and acknowledges the funding support from the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario, in supporting their artistic practice. As well as Canada Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council.
